Thrash metal outfit from Quebec City, Canada.
Through their short career (1986 to 1990), SOOTHSAYER built an imposing waybill of live performances.
Some of those live appearances include gigs along the likes of Nuclear Assault / Sacrifice / Aggression / Possessed / Kreator / Slaughter / DBC / Crumbsuckers and many more...
In october '86, SOOTHSAYER went into the studio to record their first demo entitled
"To Be A Real Terrorist" (to be re-released on CD on august 7th 2007 by Galy Records).

The result consists of five songs of pure thrash metal.
"Raw, Intense, fast, incredible! All easily sum up the precise greatness of one of the best bands yet to come from Canada! The vocals are one of the most energetic and intense I've heard in the longest!"
(review from War & Pain fanzine vol. #4/1989)

Back then, the climax of their young career was, undoubtedly, the release of their album "Have A Good Time". This LP, recorded in early 1989 but released in late 1990, has been made available to the public by the Californian independent label New Renaissance Records through their Colossal division
and distributed by Restless Records. That album created a certain infatuation among the US radio colleges circuit. In addition, highly respected European publications, such as Kerrang and Metal Forces,
qualified SOOTHSAYER as a band to seriously keep an eye on!
The band split-up in 1990!

"Everytime we shared the stage with Soothsayer, it was a friendly rivalry that would end up in mutual respect. We actually met them thru one of our friend Christian Petit who brought us to their rehearsal space in Quebec City. As soon as Stephan, Martin, Simon and Crazy Dan ripped it up, I knew my band was ready for a serious make-over. Being average wasn't an option anymore. Good times...and lots of everything...

Denis "Sasquatch" Barthe - Aggression/Cradle To Grave

"The first time Sacrifice played in Quebec, we were blown away by a demo given to us by a band called "Soothsayer". We soon became friends, and during that week in Quebec, actually attended their rehearsal, which was mayhem. People always ask me if there were any Canadian bands from the 80's that I could recommend...I always mention Soothsayer. "To Be A Real Terrorist" is definitely one of my favorite demos ever, and it's great that it is being re-released."

Rob Urbinati - Sacrifice

"The Soothsayer demo was one of the holy grail demos of the 86/87 underground scene. I was fascinated by the image on the demo, and now it's iconic to me 20 years later. I spent some time in Quebec around that period, there was plenty of excellent metal and some really great people making it."

James Plotkin - OLD/Khanate

Soothsayer, they were one of the best bands we ever played with.
We are still fans of their music!! Canadian Metal Rules!!”

Dave - Slaughter

"I recall the first time Soothsayer played on our radioshow almost 20 years ago. After a few seconds, their music hitted me like a ton of bricks. Simply put, those guys knew the definition of "intensity".
No wonder why they were back then among the top undergound metal acts in Canada."

Denis Leclerc - former Blaspheme FM96,1 radio show host

"Soothsayer were a band (Like my band Wehrmacht) that embodied the out of control speed, rage and intensity of many of the pioneering "speedcore" bands of the time. BUT, they (like Wehrmacht) just couldn't take the lyrics of the "cookie" monster" bands seriously. Hence their good sence of humor and more hardcore/punk rock approach to the lyrics and overall vibe. I was thrilled to send their demo to the label that signed them...
Back in the "tape trading" (days pre-internet), I received about 15-25 demos a day. Out of the hundreds of tapes I got most went to the garbage can. Soothsayer blew me away first time I heard it and I was flattered to hear the subtle Wehrmacht influence in their sound and vibe. Unfortunately (for me!) I sent my personal copy to the label that signed'em !!!! Congrats fellas, keep the torch lit!!!!
"

Brian Lehfeldt - Wehrmacht
